Exclusive: Coop Poppy Talks New Music, Losing Friends to The Rap Game, Gate Keeping and More

I had the chance to sit down with Coop Poppy and explore a little more about him as a person and an artist. He discusses his latest single, Sho’nuff, growing up in the city of Philadelphia and learning to express himself differently through music.

2x (two times) sheds some light on his upbringing in the city and what led him to his current position as an artist. He says he initially started making music solely for his neighborhood (just something to keep the hood motivated.) As his music grew, so did his fan base. The 26-year-old has tore down stages across the city and the nation. Coop poppy also shares his thoughts on realistically maneuvering the music industry (if you’re in it, you already know about the politics of the “the game.” It’s a game of chess.)
The uptown rapper has worked with some of the hottest producers, these names may ring a bell: Maaly Raw, DJ Tizz, Dougie on the Beat, and Infamous Rell to name a few. In the interview he gives us the drop on new music with long time confidant, Kur, a single with Drama, and Fredo Santana’s close friend and member of Glory Boyz Entertainment,
Gino Marley
.

Big $lime has been a very busy rapper, check out the interview above and follow Coop Poppy to stay in the loop with his latest releases.

Siani Leigh Speaks with Students at the Academy at Palumbo

I had the pleasure of speaking with charismatic High School students at the Academy at Palumbo in my hometown of Philadelphia, PA! Their English instructor, Rob Paul reached out to have me come in and speak about journalism.
I shared the beginnings of my career as well as my opinions on today’s musical climate and how I maneuver the entertainment business. The conversation was very open. I kept it very candid with students and let them know the truth about how things work in the real world.
I let them know that this has been a beautiful struggle. Pursing your dreams is never an easy thing. The first word I ever remember learning that stuck with me: Perseverance. I remembered it b/c it was such a big word for us in kindergarten and I was determined to learn and remember it forever! Who knew that I would grow to actually embody the word. Perseverance means: steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Watch me connect with the youth below. We discussed how I choose which music to write about, Gunna, Lil Baby, Jacquees, Tekashi, and more! I hope you all enjoy it!

Dave East Releases Paranoia 2

East is baaaacckk, not that he ever left.

After releasing the precursor to P2 in August 17′,  Karma in November 17′ and crushing multiple features, Paranoia 2 is here.

Giving us classic Dave East flows, with a touch of something new. He brought G-Unit front runner Lloyd Banks back from his hiatus on Violent. East speaks on the highs and lows of success on Thank You and Corey. One of my favorites from P2 is What Made Me. This is the Harlem representer’s ode to Hip-Hop. He pays homage to Nas of course, Biggie, Hov, Tupac, DJ Whoo Kid, Irv Gotti, Fabolous, Noreaga, The Lox, 50 Cent, Too Short, and Pharrell. Philly friendly, East mentions Beanie Sigel and says #FreeMeek. East even collabs with Torey Lanez, Marsha Ambrosius, and Bino Rideux.
Another exigent feature is Mase’s influence. East says “When Big died Harlem World dropped and I swear I ain’t listen to nothin but Mase.” He even questions his exit from Hip-Hop on What Made Me.

The P2 tour, yes the tour, kicks off Jan 18, 2018, get your tickets asap. They’re sure to sell out quickly.
P2 is available for streaming on iTunes and Spotify.

Eline, The MC digs Deep with: The Root.

The Root;

Established deeply and firmly, the basic cause, source, or origin of something. A root is also a source of support and nourishment. After being featured on one of Kur’s latest efforts, 180, Eline The MC has resurfaced to bring us a message. The Root. is a tale of perseverance, contemplation, and ultimately triumph. I say triumph because Eline chose to see another day and share these meticulously placed words with the world. Looking up from a dark place Eline reminisces on the good and bad.

She says ” …it got to a point where I felt I couldn’t afford to keep anything else stored in. I felt that the result of me  beginning to openly express myself would help not only me , but others as well. I want to get to a point of not giving a sh*t about how people judge me. With this project I wanted to stop overthinking the concept of opening up.”

Please enjoy The Root. thoroughly and dissect its succulent bitterness.
