Do People Still Read Poetry?

While randomly thumbing through the folds of my mind, a poem so poignant came to me. “Who Will Cry for The Little Boy?” It’s just how I feel in this current stage of life. I wonder who will cry for the little girl or the little boy inside us all. Read “A Thousand Deaths,” above and its inspiration by Antoine Fisher below. Please let me know what you think in the comments. Does this resonate with you?

Leaf Ward Releases a Coming of Age EP ‘Concrete Leaf’

Displaying his growth, West Philly’s Leaf Ward surprises us with Concrete Leaf.

Here we find a more focused Leaf. Passionately intertwining his words with theatrical melodies. The EP is only six songs in length, but the brevity does not take a thing from its substance. Ward has kept himself busy since releasing his last mixtape, SITT2. The 21-year-old has put in a lot of footwork for an artist this young. Gaining over 3 million streams on Soundcloud and hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. In a span of two years Leaf has released four mixtapes and countless singles. Leaf Ward provides a direct view into the minds of those plagued by dangerous environments.

Ward ignites the flame of nostalgia, being influenced by State Property and other lyrical wordsmiths. He separates himself by making music to not only listen to, but to feel.  Some people say these men who are born to the streets have no heart, but on the contrary Leaf Ward leaves his soul in the booth with this one. “this reality rap, this hood sh*t” Ward explains on Truthfully. He tells tales of young men and women who succumb to the seduction of the streets. He tells tales of knowing there’s more beyond your city limits and neighborhood.

Stream Concrete Leaf on Apple Music and Tidal and Listen above. Make sure to follow Leaf Ward because he’s just warming up.

PPPPssssttt: check out Leaf’s first interview EVER, that I had the honor of participating in.

After being convicted of violating probation (on shaky terms), Meek Mill is back. First with the release of his powerful single, Stay Woke featuring Miguel. Mill debuted the song at the 2018 BET Awards with a moving performance. It depicted the rough streets of Philadelphia, where Meek grew up. You can watch the performance by clicking the link above.
Since being home Meek has previewed beats and snippets via his Instagram page. Legends of the Summer, is another four piece combo Meek knock us out with. Each song distinctively different, he has a cut for the ladies, something for the club,  something for the streets, and a thought provoking peace meant to encourage change. Check it out below.

Last but not least, Philly’s cousin, Dave East, has dropped as well; TWICE. The Harlem rapper is known for his cleverly aligned freestyles and he does not disappoint. “I’m Good Cuz, Enjoy,” is a play on rapper Future’s latest social media debacle. Where he told an Instagram model “I’m good luv, enjoy” over text as she sat in her hotel room waiting for him. Instead of ending things with a woman, East is firing off shots at a peer. WHO, you ask?

Check it out above and let me know who to point the finger at in the comments.
East also collaborated with none other than Rick Ross on their new single, “Fresh Prince of Belaire.” The two rappers both have endorsement deals with the popular Rose brand. So why not combine forces and get more money. Am I right?
Listen to “Fresh Prince of Belaire” below and enjoy this Friday Frenzy of new music.

Roles Reverse in Mahalia’s “I Wish I Missed My Ex”

Usually when a relationship or situationship has ended, it’s usually the ladies calling for closure. Not this time.

Mahalia is an actress, singer, and songwriter hailing all the way from the U.K. who has been breaking her way into the U.S. music scene. She’s been writing music since the age of eight and acted in a UK based movie, Brotherhood. The singer has released a few EPs featuring production from frequent collaborator to Drake, Nineteen85.

“I Wish I Missed My Ex” is a breezy walk in the park. The cheerful beat negates the heartbreak associated with ending relationships. Mahalia beats her counterpart to the punch of falling out of love faster:

Every time the weekend comes, yeah
I know that it won’t be long, yeah
Til you‘re gonna call my phone, yeah
You’ll be like ‘Babe, come over’
I know how this goes, yeah
Talk about you need closure
Too many missed calls, too many texts
Damn I wish I missed my ex

Watch “I Wish I Missed My Ex” below and tell me what you think in the comment section.

WATCH: Theodore Grams & Tay Zaro Share a Vision of Love

“When we can stop addressing ourselves by the color of our skin we will be a free society.” -Joe Delli Carpini

Wishful Thinking is a short film by Theodore Grams and Tay Zaro. The film explores the qualms of interracial love. Beyond the subject of interracial dating, Zaro and Grams share both sides of a relationship in, Wishful Thinking.

As the film opens, the pair are arguing about Zaro’s family not accepting Grams simply because he is a black man. The two further argue and we find out that Grams’ family has also not been so accepting of his girlfriend either. In an intimate space where it should just be you and your lover, we often let our families and friends get in between. This dialogue between lovers is the perfect example. Grams and Zaro spend time isolated to clear their mind. In their final act we find them in a room, seated, face to face. This scene is reminiscent of Get Out and is up for interpretation.
